The Field Museum is one of the best museums in Chicago!
Those living in or visiting Chicago must put The Field Museum of Natural History on their list (also referred to as simply, the Field Museum)! This amazing museum is chock-full of exhibits, both permanent and rotating (visiting exhibits typically require an additional ticket).
The Field Museum is the home of SUE, the T-Rex! SUE is the most complete T-Rex skeleton ever to be found. She has her own room in the Griffin Halls of Evolving Planet area. Here, interactive guides will teach you about the life SUE likely lived and how she died. Plus, there is a fun quiz area to test your knowledge about SUE. Certainly, aspiring paleontologists have to see and learn about her!
After visiting SUE, families can explore a variety of other exhibits too! Dive into the mysteries of ancient Egypt. Then, explore the cultures and indigenous peoples of the Amazon. In fact, you can also learn about birds, gems, and plant medicines.
Here's what you need to know before you go! The Field Museum is open every day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (with the last admission at 4:00 pm). They are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. While you can buy tickets at the door, we strongly recommend that you reserve your time online in advance of your visit (days can sell out). For out-of-state visitors, there are three passes available, including options for the 3D movie experience and all ticketed experiences.
Inside the museum, there is a cafe and eating area, as well as bathrooms throughout the museum. There is no longer a coat check in use. Complimentary wheelchairs are available for guests to use. Strollers are also available to rent during your visit ($3.00 or $5.00 for double strollers). Both are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Those visiting Chicago may want to consider the CityPASS (especially if you are planning to go to a variety of museums and tourist sights). The Field Museum is right next to the Shedd Aquarium, making them a good pair for families with a lot of travel stamina for long touring days.
