Irvine Park and Zoo is a local favorite featuring animals, playgrounds, trails, and more in Chippewa Falls!
Families in the Chippewa Falls area will adore spending long days exploring Irvine Park and Zoo. Whether you have a quick hour or a full day, there is a lot to keep you busy! Firstly, there are four playgrounds in the park offering a variety of slides, swings, merry-go-rounds, climbing structures, and more. In addition, at least two of the playgrounds have been newly renovated, offering more accessible features for mobility disabilities and wheelchair users. There is also a splash pad near the playground during the summer near the entrance.
Everything is set along Duncan Creek, the river that runs through the park. This gives everything a charming feel, as you will see the river from playgrounds, hikes, and the drive through the park. It is also a huge contributor to the park's geology, flora, and fauna.
After playing, head to the zoo area, which features several animals, including farm animals, tigers, bears, and birds. If you drive (or walk) around the main road within the park, you can also see bison, deer, and elk. There is also a duck pond across from the largest playground.
Those with older kids can hit the trails and go hiking here instead. Hike along trails that lead you to the waterfall or in the heavily wooded areas. Some trails are converted to cross-country ski trails in the winter. Older kids, tweens, and teens will also love finding the cave within the park. This small cave has a big history! It was once used for storing beer and soda from a local maker in the late 1800s.
There is a newly built bridge that leads to the waterfall too! Find the parking lot near the bison and take the new walkway for a great view of the falls. Alternatively, this area also offers dock access for boats and kayaks to explore the upper loch area.
Seasonally during the summer, there is a small historic schoolhouse and cabin to learn more about the local history of the Chippewa Valley. Irvine Park is transformed into a Christmas paradise with thousands of lights in the winter! Every year, people flock here to drive or walk through the light display set to holiday music. Occasionally, horse-drawn carriage rides are also offered during the holiday season (Thanksgiving to New Year's Day).
There are plenty of parking lots and spaces throughout the park, making it very easy to explore. Bathrooms, bandshells, picnic tables, and other amenities are spread throughout Irvine Park and Zoo. Seasonally, concessions and Olson's Ice Cream are also available near the zoo.
