Hyland Lake Park Reserve is a seriously beautiful, seriously wonderful park in the Twin Cities.

This park is among the most well-appointed regional parks in the Twin Cities, a system called Three Rivers Park District. Most of the parks within their list are very large and have many different amenities and active pursuits to offer.

In winter, this park offers cross-country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, and a popular sledding hill. Other seasonal activities include biking, hiking, geocaching, disc golf, and more. This park offers over 18 miles of beautiful walking/biking trails, and we definitely love to explore these trails year-round. We used to do more of just walking the trails, but now the kids are getting more excited about biking, as well. Still, even on our bikes, we take the time to stop frequently, get off the main trail a bit, and look for wildflowers to identify, bees and bugs, or any little creepy-crawlers who might be lingering nearby.

This park allows for family fun in all seasons, so there's always a reason to head here. There are full park facilities, including an on-site nature center, restrooms, picnic tables and benches, and large parking lots free of charge. There's also a full 18 hole disc golf course at this park reserve.

If you're in the Bloomington area and are looking for a really large park with many miles of stroller and bike-friendly trails, scenic woodland areas and prairie, and excellent facilities, this is a great park for you. After getting lost in nature here, head over to Mugshots Coffee for some fresh oatmeal scones and piping hot coffee or cocoa.
