Dr. P Phillips Park Is a Short Drive from Universal Orlando with Views of the Orlando Tourist Strip, International Drive, and the Perfect Place to Break Up Your Day at the Theme Parks!
The park upon entry has ample parking available at no charge. The first thing that will catch your kid's eyes will likely be the amazing splash pad that really calls attention to this park. It is operating periodically and may be closed for maintenance, but it does have a flat per person charge to enter (cash only) when it is operational. You can bring water, toys, and water to drink while in the splash pad, but you are not allowed to eat within its gates.
If you do need to snack, the pavilion right next door offers picnic tables and direct access to the bathroom. The bathrooms, connected to the pavilion and across from the splash pad, are accessible during play but do not offer a shower or separate changing room after the splash pad. Once dried off, you can enjoy the space-themed playground, also split into younger and older kid sections but all within the same area to enjoy.
Just beyond the playground is a roughly half-mile walking loop, LongHorn Steakhouse Loop, which will take you around the park. You will pass more pavilions, basketball courts and eventually reach the gated dog park while walking it. The online guide provides detailed information about the park and what you can see while strolling it - https://www.orangecountyfl.net/Portals/0/Library/Culture-Recreation/ParksModule/docs/LongHorn%20Steakhouse%20loop%20Guide-CERT.pdf.
The park itself overlooks Big Sand Lake, where you'll notice some of Orlando's tourist districts in the distance. It is in direct proximity to Universal, International Drive, and the Sea World areas. It is very accessible if you are visiting and want to enjoy a break from the theme parks that call this area home!
Need a bite to eat? You're 4 miles (10 minutes) from Sand Lake Road, where you will find a Trader Joe's and Publix to pick up a picnic lunch. Rocco's Tacos is also a great local place to eat with great views of the lake and a lively environment!
